Hi creative lovelies!! I'm so excited to finally announce my partnership with StencilGirl products. Last year, I spent a week creating art with my friend Mary Beth Shaw {the owner of StencilGirl} and started brainstorming ideas for new stencils. After my Printmaking Unleashed book deadlines, I began working on the designs over the past few months and the first collection of stencils is available today!! whoohoo!!
In my first collection, there are five stencils that I created from my hand drawn doodles which include art journal phrases. The stencils are inspired by my love of flowers, hand lettering and geometric shapes. They're perfect for creating layered backgrounds on any surface...in your art journal, on fabric, wood or even the studio walls! I had so much fun designing these, I have a few more stencil designs in the works.
Here are some peeks into the art I've been creating with the stencils...
black gesso prints ~ I have fallen in LOVE with black gesso! mix a little Turquoise Phthalo with Black Gesso to create a strong contrast over a vibrant dyed background. paint the mixture through the stencil, then turn it over onto another area of the paper and roll over the back to transfer the wet paint to take a print.
dyed paper towel prints - If you've taken a workshop with me or read my first book Collage Unleashed, you know I LOVE dyed paper towels! They're great for painting, collage and to use an ink pad. Dye a two-ply paper towel with various Golden High Flow or fluid acrylic paints. Cover the entire surface of the paper towel with paint. While it's wet place the paper towel over the substrate, then place the stencil and brayer over the stencil to transfer the print.
white resist prints ~ apply Titanium White paint using a foam brayer while first layer of paint is damp, so the colors will mix. Golden High flow will create a more transparent tint. heavy body paint will create an opaque textured resist. let dry. then paint over the top with a wash of paint.
colorful stencil prints~ paint or spray through the stencils, then place a paper over the top to pick up the excess paint on the top of the stencil. spray water from a bottle to reactivate the leftover paint then place another piece of paper over the top to create a ghost print.
monprint acrylic skins~ create textured acrylic skins by pressing stencils into the wet paint. once the paint dries, peel it off of the plastic sheet. skins are great for collage!
